Koothu ஒலி infuses traditional and vintage Indian Pop, real life interactions, stories, new sounds & field recordings to celebrate all that he loves about India.

NAMASKAR, DELHiCiOUS, BROKEN RiCKSHAW, HOT CHiCKEN SOUP, FiNGERPRiNTED, KiNGFiSHER’S BiRTHDAY and SHAANTi, are all written and produced by Koothu ஒலி. In these tracks, you can feel the chaos of crowded cities with thumpin beats & textures bumping out of souped up rickshaws.

SOUTH iNDiAN BLUES features Smokey The Ghost & Mc Bijju and is the only vocal track and features 2 mc’s rapping in English & Kannada.

Koothu ஒலி travelled to India to study percussion and culture and to collect sounds and conceptual inspiration for the project “iNDiATMOSPHERE”. He was introduced to Guru Veeramani Sankar to learn Karnatik music and more specifically to study rhythm, but extended his journey to immerse himself in the wider culture of India and meet people on his travels collecting sounds, music and stories.

French bassist, composer and beatmaker, Koothu studied music at the Conservatory for 3 years. After graduating from his class in 2012 with the famous Music Academy International, Koothu decided to discover new music through several trips to Europe and Asia. He lived in Berlin for 4 years, which allowed him to collaborate with internationally renowned artists in the Soul, Jazz and Hip Hop scene such as Amp Fiddler, Vernon D Hill (Slum Village) and Charles X (CA) through festivals in Europe and in the studio. Leader of the Neosoul “Polylogue From Sila” project with which he has mainly toured for the last 3 years in France, he has performed concerts in prestigious clubs and jazz festivals such as the Baiser Salé or the Ermi Jazz Festival in Paris. He is now part of the group “Ah! Kwantou” as a bassist, which is led by the famous Kyekyeku, and he is a fervent representative of High Life in Ghana.

Smokey the Ghost is a socio-conscious Indian rapper. Hailing from the city of Bangalore, he has been a pioneer in the Indian Hip Hop Scene for the past 15 Years. Being the founding member of the popular group, Machas With Attitude; he rendered his voice to many popular Bollywood films like Chennai Express & Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. In 2017, he collaborated with electronic duo, Aerate Sound, which led him to be the first rapper from India to appear on the Bangalore edition of The Boiler Room. Smokey the Ghost & Aerate Sound are set to perform at The Magnetic Fields Festival in late 2017, which will make him the First rapper to feature on the festival as well.

MC BIJJU is a pakka Kannada rapper, lyricist and music composer. He has collaborated on many international projects - taking Kannada to new heights - and is known by his nickname “machine gun” because of his rapid fire flows.
